The Department of Health is joining the chorus of people expressing concern over images of people gathered in dense groups on George Street on the weekend.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health met yesterday with public health officials and Service NL to discuss the issue and determine the next steps.
Department officials say guidelines and public health orders are in place to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.
It says aside from risking public health, there are other consequences for businesses that fail to adhere to public health measures, including fines of up to $50,000 for a first offence.
Konfusion Addressing Issues After Moments “Of Concern” Over Weekend
Meanwhile, Konfusion on George Street has issued a statement after photos and videos surfaced of people not distancing on the weekend.
They say they recognize that this weekend presented some moments that were of concern.
The statement goes on to say their staff is working hard to ensure a socially safe environment inside their establishment. While outside, the public authorities they partner with are leading all governance around how people distance.
They state that issues and opportunities for improvement are presenting themselves all over the place, and that they are committed to get things right as they continue to establish a new normal in the face of these challenges.
