The provincial government has announced its framework to address the lack of regulations around short-term accommodations, primarily Airbnbs.
The emergence of such rental accommodations, often in someone’s home, has left licensed facilities crying foul as they have more expenses to bear to meet government regulations.
Minister Bernard Davis says the proposed amendments to the Tourism Establishments Act will ensure a level playing field for all accommodation businesses in the province’s tourism industry.
The changes include removing the mandatory requirement for Canada Select ratings but requiring all accommodations to be registered with government.
