The PC Opposition is calling for point of entry testing in the province following reports of U.S. military personnel visiting downtown St. John’s businesses while on a 24-hour layover.
The soldiers were supposed to have gone straight to their hotel rooms to self-isolate while here.

Opposition Tourism critic Lloyd Parrot, a former member of the Canadian military, says regardless of how a person enters the province, government is obligated to protect its citizens.
Parrott calls this week’s incident a “prime example” of why mandatory testing should be conducted at all of the province’s points of entry.
Meanwhile, New Brunswick is going to expand its bubble to include border towns and cities in Quebec. That applies only to day-use situations, but New Brunswick will not have any security at those points of entry and will instead depend on people to follow.
