There will be more access to hands-on mental health services across the province that will bring support closer to home for many.
The provincial government is partnering with the regional health authorities to launch new mental health teams.
Flexible Assertive Community Treatment teams will provide hands-on assistance with daily activities and continuous long-term support and treatment to anyone 18 years and older.
FACT teams also hope to lessen unnecessary emergency room and hospital visits by providing additional services such as administering medication, peer support and closely monitoring anyone experiencing serious mental illness.
The first seven multidisciplinary teams will be available starting today in Deer Lake, Corner Brook, St. Anthony, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. More teams will be added throughout the year.
Teams in Grand-Falls Windsor and Gander will launch on August 6. A St. John’s Team will be available in early September. Work is ongoing to establish six additional teams by the end of 2020.
The teams will be available up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with available after hour services in the event of emergencies.
