The loser of the Liberal leadership race believes hundreds and possibly thousands were unable to vote because of flaws in the process, and he’s calling for an audit.
John Abbott, who lost to Andrew Furey by a two-to-one margin, had the misfortune of calling registered voters only to find they had died before the process of electing a new leader had begun. Many of the people they called from the list of registered voters provided by the party had no idea how they got to be on the list as they had never registered.
Abbott says he’s not contesting today’s numbers, it’s the voting process they want an audit of as he believes hundreds, if not thousands, didn’t receive a pin.

Abbott also says many people who registered received no PIN and then called the Voter Helpline only to be told there was no record of their registration, so they could not vote.
He says thousands of people spent hours trying to get through to the Voter Helpline. Abbott is not contesting the result of the election.
