Workers in long-term care homes in the west end of St. John’s say things are not getting done in a timely fashion because of staffing issues.
They demonstrated over the lunch hour today at Agnes Pratt and St. Luke’s off Topsail Road to bring attention to the situation.
NAPE President Jerry Earle says the workers are concerned for the residents and themselves.
He says the staffing strain is affecting the vital care and services they provide. It’s to the point where being granted leave and having days off is difficult.
Earle says often they can’t even get entitled breaks from work as they are called in on their days off
Earle says similar situations exist in long-term care homes right across the province.
