Fire crews were called into action Friday morning after a forest fire broke out near Twillingate.
Crews were notified of a fire burning in the area of Bayview Pond around 11:00 this morning.
Two water bombers and a helicopter were deployed to bring the fire under control, along with a team of fire personnel from the Department of Land Resources and town of Lewisporte.
Officials issued a statement that as of Friday afternoon, there was no risk to public safety or property. About 37 acres had been burned.
Crews continue their work well into the afternoon to ensure the fire is brought under control.
Police are investigating a rash of suspicious fires in the area of Twillingate in recent weeks. 11 fires were reported between May 28 and July 28.
The RCMP says an investigation is underway into the cause of Friday’s fire.
