The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has begun reintroducing indoor extra-curricular school activities across the province, but one man who was pushing for such activities to resume is labelling the approach as “overcautious.”
James Carpenter is a basketball coach who started up a Facebook group calling for indoor school sports to be reinstated.
The school district’s phased-in plan began yesterday with the reintroduction of music and volleyball, with the plan being to bring back more activities over the next few months.
Carpenter calls the plan a “great step forward,” but is hoping more action is taken soon. He’s hoping the current plan is “just a test” and that after a few weeks more activities will be added.
If not, Carpenter says his group will continue to put pressure on the school board perhaps by bringing a petition to the House of Assembly or by holding a rally.
