Now that the transfer of processing licences to Royal Greenland is complete, the fisheries minister says he’ll stay on top of the file to ensure the company lives up to its commitments and obligations.
Royal Greenland recently bought out Quinlan Brothers to become the largest fish processor in the province.
The deal raised concerns in many corners given that the company is owned by the Government of Greenland, which is a territory of Denmark.
Minister Elvis Loveless says he’ll take them at their word that it will be business as usual in the province.
He says he’s been assured by the company that little will change with its operations since arriving in the province in 2016, adding there are minimum processing requirements that protect workers.
The deal, which was recommended by the Fish Processing Licensing Board and approved by Loveless, involves fish plants in Old Perlican, Bay de Verde and Baie Verte.
