Eastern Health has issued an advisory to residents of Blue Crest Cottages in Grand Bank of potential exposure to COVID-19 after a resident recently tested positive for the virus.
The affected resident was in contact with another person who recently tested positive for the virus. Contact tracing is underway and close contacts will be advised to quarantine for 14 days.
Eastern Health has put special measures in place to prevent the potential spread of the illness out of what it calls “an abundance of caution.”
Residents are asked to stay in their apartments, limit visitors to those who provide care and not use any common areas while monitoring for symptoms.
If residents must leave their apartments, they’re asked to wear a mask, wash their hands and keep at last six feet of physical distance from others.
Any essential workers entering a cottage, like a home care worker, should wear masks and sanitize their hands.
That leaves three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Burin Peninsula town of Grand Bank.
Mayor Rex Matthews admits while that’s a serious concern, he says the town is in good hands with Eastern Health which is managing the situation well.
