The CEO of Ocean Choice International is pleased an extensive Land Use Assessment prepared for the town of Conception Bay South shows their proposal for an industrial complex in Long Pond will have “negligible impact” on the area.
Area residents are calling for a full environmental assessment of the project, something that falls under the province’s jurisdiction but CEO Blaine Sullivan says a comprehensive Land Use Assessment Report and other regulatory approvals needed should address any environmental concerns there.
Regulatory agencies, like DFO Habitat, are involved and the process involved in the Land Use Assessment Report issued this week is more rigorous than an Environmental Assessment in Sullivan’s opinion.
Questions about OCI’s plans in the area have also been raised based on the amount of water lot purchased by the company. Sullivan says their plans are to develop 4.2 acres and any future development will have to go through a separate regulatory process.
