It’s another sign of the coming winter. Caribou have been taking to roadways along the Northern Peninsula and West Coast.
The provincial government is cautioning drivers to use extra care on the roads when travelling near Howley and along the Northern Peninsula near the St. Anthony Airport.
The Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture says there has been a significant number of caribou noted in those areas. It’s expected they’ll remain active through the fall and winter.
Drivers are encouraged to pay attention to caribou warning signs, reduce speeds at night, and avoid travelling at dusk and dawn when caribou may be more common.
