Four towns in Conception Bay Centre are talking regionalization. Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview, Avondale, Conception Harbour and Colliers each do most things on their own.
Each town has its fire department but one idea being floated is to develop their own fire training facility. They currently have to travel outside the area for training.
Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview Mayor Michael Doyle says each town will remain its own municipal entity, so amalgamation is not in the discussion. However, all mayors believe they can save taxpayers money but working together such as in engineering services, and buying sand and salt for the roads.
He says each town gets a delivery of its own sand and salt, each paying a delivery bill. By ordering en masse, costs and the carbon footprint would be reduced.
