New limits on the amount of garbage that people can place at curbside each week in St. John’s will come into effect March 1.
Council approved the plan a month ago but did not have a specific date at that time for implementation.
Councillor Ian Froude, the lead on public works, says the new rules will reduce the maximum number of bags to four—down from the current ten.
Those with the automated carts have pretty much been restricted to that number for a while now, but areas without carts will now have to adjust.
Furthermore, mandatory recycling comes in next year. Clear bags will be required come January 1, meaning three of the four will have to be clear while one can be a privacy (coloured) bag.
