The NunatuKavut Community Council has announced $2.8-million funding for the continuation of two pilot programs that began last year.
The Medical Transportation Program, which provides financial support for travel costs associated with accessing specialized medical services, is getting $1.5-million.
Since the program was introduced in January of last year, over 400 applications have been received, with some residents making use of the program multiple times.
The second is the Home Repair Program, which is getting $1.3-million. Since that program started, nearly 100 applications have been received.
President Todd Russell says feedback on both of the pilot projects has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
He says the programs will continue to help alleviate the financial pressure on residents, especially as COVID restrictions continue to play a factor in our lives.
Both programs have been extended to March 31, 2022.
