The Atlantic Canada Airports Association has confirmed it’s been advised of more service cuts by Air Canada in the region effective January 23.
Air Canada will suspend all service in Gander, Goose Bay and Fredericton, New Brunswick.
It comes on the heels of further Air Canada service cuts to Sydney and Saint John, New Brunswick, as well as WestJet’s suspension of 80 per cent of capacity in Atlantic Canada, announced in October.
Executive Director of the Atlantic Canada Airports Association, Monette Pasher, says it’s the fourth round of air service cuts in the area in the last 10 months.
She worries that they cannot just “flip a switch to turn air service back on” when things get back to normal, and says rebuilding air access will be a long road.
Air Canada’s direct St. John’s-Toronto route is similarly affected.
Air Canada announces capacity and workforce reductions. We regret the impact these difficult decisions will have on our employees and on the affected communities. More: https://t.co/zpN6GIfKi5
