The ECHL has approved expansion applications for two new teams, both of which are owned by local businessman Dean MacDonald.
That means MacDonald now owns three teams in the ECHL—including the 2019 Kelly Cup Champion Newfoundland Growlers—through his company Deacon Sports and Entertainment.
The two new additions are based in Trois-Rivières, Quebec and Coralville, Iowa.
Both teams are scheduled to begin play in the 2021-22 season in new 5,000-seat arenas.
