A Glenwood man is under investigation for possible drug charges after a traffic stop in Hillgrade on New World Island earlier this week.
On Monday evening a Twillingate RCMP officer on patrol noticed a car speeding through the community. Radar readings picked up speeds as high as 117 km/h in a 50 km/h zone; the officer locked the vehicle’s speed in at 107 km/h.
Police say the 26-year old driver was found in possession of unsealed cannabis, contraband tobacco, a quantity of cash and a substance believed to be cocaine.
He was ticketed for open cannabis and exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 51 km/h. Police seized and impounded the car and suspended the man’s driver’s licence.
The investigation is continuing as police await the results of a drug analysis.
