The province is continuing with the Accessible Taxi Grant for persons with disabilities.
Government is now accepting applications for the $50,000 pot of funding which will be split between two cab companies.
The money can be used to customize an existing vehicle or buy a new one that can accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.
Minister John Abbott, who’s responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, says responding to the current need is critical.
He sees accessible transportation as essential in today’s society, removing yet another barrier for those who have no other way to get around and live their lives.
Abbott made the announcement in Stephenville where the local Blue Bird Cabs availed last year of $25,000 toward a new vehicle.
He said the program, initiated in 2015, will continue indefinitely.
