The family that inspired the name of a new Paradise natural park area is honoured by the gesture from the town.
Mayor Dan Bobbitt opened yesterday “Farrell’s Lookout”, a new park with a picturesque view of Octagon Pond and the surrounding landscape.
Mike and Kate Farrell initially settled in the area of the park in 1884 where they built a farm. Since then, six generations of Farrells have made their home on the land.
Pat Burton, a descendent of Mike and Kate and the eldest of her generation of Farrell’s, says it’s incredible to see her family honoured this way.
She says it’s very moving, especially as her parents, grandparents, and other family members worked so hard on the land.
A storyboard of the family’s history is featured at the park.
