End Homelessness St John’s is looking for more landlords to join the Home Connect initiative.
The program has been around for about a year, and works with landlords to provide housing to those experiencing homelessness. During the first year, the organization worked with over 30 landlords to house more than 40 tenants.
Shelters are reaching capacity and more tenants are in need of their own spaces – leading to a call for more landlords.
Executive Director Doug Pawson says they offer a landlord protection fund, provide a single point of contact, and do regular inspections of the units.
He says one of the biggest features for landlords and tenants is the guaranteed rental payment with limited turnover.
He says as tenants get back on their feet they tend to settle in for long-term rentals. It’s not just a business opportunity for landlords according to Pawson, but also an opportunity to provide a place that someone can call home.
