One of the founding members of the world’s greatest rock n’ roll band is dead.
Drummer Charlie Watts has passed away at the age of 80.
Watts began his career as a jazz drummer, joining the Rolling Stones in 1963.
Watts, who provided the steady backbeat for the band for nearly 60 years, announced earlier this year that he would not be joining the band on their upcoming tour due to health issues.
The Rolling Stones issued a statement today confirming Watts’ passing, calling him a cherished husband, father and grandfather and “one of the greatest drummers of his generation.”

A very sad day. Charlie Watts was the ultimate drummer. The most stylish of men, and such brilliant company. My deepest condolences to Shirley, Seraphina and Charlotte. And of course, The Rolling Stones.
