Drivers can expect some slowdowns on Topsail Road as the city works to address a sinkhole that has developed between Colville and Forbes streets.
City Lead on Public Works Sandy Hickman says the sinkhole developed during last week’s intense thunderstorms.
Crews will now have to dig down to investigate the damage done to the underground infrastructure and complete repairs. Lane reductions will be in place for at least another week.

In the meantime, repairs are underway to fix water damage on the road on Barter’s Hill. Hickman says the pavement is being removed and they’re doubling the capacity of the underground infrastructure which was overwhelmed in the deluge.
He’s not sure how much the work will cost, but it will likely be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
