The NLMA says serious efforts by the province of Nova Scotia to recruit more family physicians will make physician recruitment in this province even more challenging, but the Health Minister says Nova Scotia is actually mirroring many of the efforts this province already has in place.
Minister John Haggie says this province has a health services plan for each region, with a focus on team-based care.
He says Nova Scotia’s bullet points on their physician recruitment plan line up with NL’s approach.
Haggie says while the province is seeing a steady increase in the numbers of physicians, access remains a challenge.
He says that increase hasn’t translated into improved access or health outcomes. That, he says, is something the Health Accord is hoping to address.
