A woman has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of a 49-year-old man in the Carter’s Hill area yesterday evening.
30-year-old Lorraine Obed of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has been remanded to custody pending her next court appearance September 13. Obed was previously wanted on a warrant for allegedly assaulting the victim, James Corcoran, back in July.

Constable James Cadigan confirmed that the woman is being charged with second-degree murder following an altercation in the area of Carter’s Hill.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police received a report of an assault in progress where a man sustained serious injuries. Police located the man lying on the ground. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene a short time later.
The man and woman were known to each other.
RNC are working with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Officer on the cause of death and are continuing to speak with witnesses. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the RNC if they wish to avail of trauma services.
The area around Carter’s Hill, Cookstown Road, and Saunders Place just off Cabot Street was cordoned off for an extended period while police conducted their investigation.
