A 38-year-old man is facing a slew of assault and weapons charges after approaching police with an edged weapon.

Just before 1:00 a.m. this morning, RNC received a call of a suspicious person in the area of Hamlyn Road.

When officers located the man, he approached them with an edged weapon and engaged in an altercation.

He was arrested and is facing charges of assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and public mischief.

He was held for court this morning.
