The links between Newfoundland and the New England states, and Boston in particular, are well known.
Now there’s yet another connection between the two regions known for their rich nautical pasts.
The Effie M. Morrissey, the famous schooner skippered by Robert Bartlett of Brigus in a series of scientific expeditions to the Arctic over 100 years ago, is undergoing restoration work that will soon see it sailing once again.
Carl Herzog with the USS Constitution Museum in Boston says the schooner, now known as the Ernestina-Morrissey, is a significant vessel.
He says it’s hoped the historic schooner will begin sailing with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the next year or so. The restoration work has been recognized by the USS Constitution Museum with an award.
