Both the Premier and Minister of Health declined comment in the House of Assembly in response to questions raised about a letter from a Labrador family seeking the removal of John Haggie from the Health portfolio.
Robert Way wrote to the Premier asking that Minister Haggie apologize for misrepresenting the 36-hour delay in getting the medical transportation his critically-ill newborn daughter required to get her to the NICU in St. John’s from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Both Haggie and Premier Andrew Furey were grilled in the House about the letter and the Premier’s confidence in the Minister by Opposition Leader David Brazil.
Haggie told the Legislature that he spoke with the family immediately on receipt of the letter and both indicated it would not be appropriate to discuss the matter in the House of Assembly.
