Residents of Colinet and surrounding area made good yesterday on a promise to start filling potholes on the Markland Road and it worked.
Unpaved portions of the road are so pitted with potholes they resemble a washer board. Residents are fed up with the state of the road which runs from St. Mary’s Bay to Whitbourne.
Even 91-year old Billy Davis, who protest organizers say has been fighting for Markland Road for over 70 years, took shovel in hand, spreading gravel to fill in some of the holes.
Not long after they left, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure sent in a grader to do the road. The department said yesterday prior to that, that they needed a good weather window as grading the road amid heavy downpours will cause more damage.
