RCMP on the Burin Peninsula had to fire a rubber bullet in order to bring down an armed robbery suspect who barricaded himself inside a Marystown home on the weekend into custody.
36-year-old Gerard Brake of Marystown is facing numerous charges in connection with an armed robbery at a local gas bar early Saturday morning.
Police were called after a man entered the local Ultramar armed with a knife. The suspect fled the area on foot and was eventually located at a home on Queen Street in Marystown. RCMP say a woman, who was in breach of court orders by being in contact with Brake, left the home and was arrested without incident. Brake then barricaded himself inside the house and refused to come out.
RCMP say additional resources were brought in and in order to subdue Brake, a rubber bullet was fired at approximately 12:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Brake, who was treated in hospital for minor injuries, is facing a list of charges including robbery, disguise with intent to commit an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of breach of a court order.
Brake is being held in custody pending his next court appearance today. The woman was released to appear in court at a later date.
