Several patrol cars on either side of the Bay of Islands on the west coast combined to corral a fleeing vehicle which drove through three communities early this morning after refusing to stop for the flashing lights of the RNC on the North Shore Highway.
The vehicle, which at times hit speeds of over 51 km/h over the speed limit, continue on toward Irishtown-Summerside so the initial police cruiser abandoned pursuit. A unit on the Corner Brook side of the bay, which observed the fleeing vehicle from the Griffin Drive waterfront vantage point, joined the effort. They were able to stop the vehicle without incident.
The driver, a 25-year-old man from Corner Brook, has been charged with numerous offences including excessive speeding, flight from police, driving with undue care and having an expired driver’s license.
He will appear in court in January and his car will be impounded for 30 days.
