Construction for the new community centre to replace the aging HGR Mews Centre is underway.
Councillor Jamie Korab and Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary provided the update today on the over $33,000,000 project located in Mundy Pond Park.
The new building will be 60,000 square feet, featuring a full-sized gym with a walking track, a deep lap pool, and a steam room, among other amenities.
The site will also feature an inclusive playground, valued at $1 million dollars and funded by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
The building is set to finish up construction in the Fall of 2023, with the playground set to open in this upcoming spring.
Originally valued at $24 million, Korab says the budget, which is provided by the federal government, was raised to incorporate what they heard through public engagement.
