Four people and one team have been inducted into the Royal St. John’s Regatta Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremonies were held Wednesday during a luncheon at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
The five inductees include four people—Paul Ring, Rick Coish, Rosalind Devereaux and Siobhan Duff, who was represented by her mom, former mayor Shannie Duff—as well as the 1995 East Coast Marine midget crew.
The legendary Paul Ring, now 80, says he owes everything to his great crews over the years. He says without the teams he simply wouldn’t have been given the honour, adding it was enough just to be nominated, let along accepted into the Hall of Fame.
Ring, who was a member of the ’81 Smith Stockley crew that broke the 1901 Outer Cove time of 9:13, now has 67 years of involvement punched in at the Regatta.
Meantime, members of the ’95 East Coast Marine midget crew include cox Jerry Power Sr., stroke Craig Crane, Jerry Power, John Walsh, Sandy Peddle, Trevor Hammond and Geoff Clarke.
Their 1995 record-setting time of 5:00:79 still stands today.
