Significant flooding and mudslides are causing a large-scale shutdown of highways and rail lines in British Columbia.
The City of Abbottsford in the Fraser Valley area east of Vancouver, has seen mass shutdowns of transportation systems due to flooding and landslides damaging bridges and other pieces of transportation infrastructure.
Stephen Evans, who is originally from Stephenville, is the executive director of a non-profit organization in Abbottsford, and says the flooding will have a significant effect on the supply chain in Canada.
Evans says personally, two of his workers were trapped in the town of Hope due to the flooding and mudslides, and his son-in-law had to leave his vehicle in the town. He says all three had to be evacuated by boat.
He says you sometimes think these issues are far away, but when it’s someone you know, it puts in perspective how much of an impact this will have on the country economically for some time.
Through all the horror, Evans says there has been some beauty as well, as many have stepped in to help strangers in their time of need.
The damage, the assessment and the recovery… in images.
We're collecting #BCstorm photos of the impacts on our BC highways. We'll continue to add as more photos/videos are available.https://t.co/72xZ1tv26Q
