The Opposition Health Critic wants to know why Newfoundland and Labrador is not making greater use of rapid test kits.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health last week indicated that rapid tests were being deployed strategically, indicating they aren’t always accurate depending on when in the infectious period you happen to test.
Paul Dinn says rapid tests are being used to a much greater degree in other provinces and he wants to know why the tests are not being used to a similar extent in this province to help stem outbreaks like the one currently seen in Labrador.
Just a few weeks ago, Premier Andrew Furey indicated that government was considering the introduction of rapid tests at all border entries and making it more widely available at the community level.
