Today is Plaid for Dad day.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s campaign encourages people to wear plaid to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
The campaign was created in 2015 and has run every year since.
One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their life.
Prostate cancer survivor and VOCM Cabin Party host Brian O’Connell says awareness is an important part of prostate cancer detection.
He says it often goes undetected and comes as a surprise to men who show no symptoms, which was similar to his case.
“This cancer doesn’t just affect the old man, it affects everybody in the family.”
O’Connell is also the Honourary Ride Captain for the Ride for Dad.
I am excited to host 2 Plaid for Dad trivia games tomorrow on Kahoot via Teams. Trivia team winners get bragging rights and a $50 Tim Hortons gift card.
Remember to wear plaid on June 17th. Here's my story. https://t.co/ILuZaPC2Pv— B𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐎’𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥l (@ocathome) June 14, 2022
