Two local golfers overcame wet and windy conditions this past weekend to win the Canada Games trials at the Gander Golf Club.
Ryan Holwell of Bally Haly carded a two-day total of 150 to capture the boys division with a six-stroke win over fellow clubmate Ethan Efford.
Sam Fisher, also of Bally Haly, and Daniel Sharpe with the Blomidon club in Corner Brook, recorded a final round 92 and 93 respectively to move up two placings from Day 1 and tie for third.
In the girls division, Mila Snook led wire to wire to capture the win with a two-day total of 165 and a four-stroke victory over her sister, Freya Snook.
Sanjana Gullipalli of Clovelly clinched third place, recording a two-day total of 178.
The players are scheduled to compete at the 2022 Royal LePage Provincial Championships at The Wilds. as well as the Next Gen Atlantic Championships at the Antigonish Golf and Country Club in Nova Scotia July 11-14th.
That will determine which players move on to represent the province at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagra Falls.
