Hockey NL is paying tribute to a Conception Bay hockey great.
Jim Penney, a member of the NL Hockey Hall of Fame, passed away at the Carbonear General Hospital last Friday surrounded by his family. He was 81.
Penney was born in Salmon Cove and played for the Conception Bay CeeBees from 1958 to 1968. He played with the St. John’s Caps from 1969 to 1973, leading his teams to five Herder Memorial Trophy championships while wearing the “C” on his jersey.
Penney also served as past-president of the Conception Bay North Minor Hockey Association and coached many teams over the years.
Donations in his memory are being accepted for the Jim Penney CeeBees Memorial Foundation.
