A sad end to a difficult situation for a bull moose on the Southern Shore.
Conservations officers were called to Aquaforte on Monday, July 18, where a moose was stranded on a ledge in a ravine a short distance from the water.
The officers determined that the moose appeared to be in good health and it had access to food and water.
Officers tried to drive the moose out of the ravine in hopes it would swim to a nearby wooded area, but it stayed put.
They continued to monitor the situation in hopes it would leave on its own, but when officers checked again on Thursday, it was still there.
The officers determined that the safe and humane thing to do would be to dispatch the animal. It was discovered that the creature had suffered a broken leg that prevented it from leaving the area.
