The province is looking at ways to remove barriers for Ukrainian doctors wishing to practice in the province.
Health Minister Tom Osborne met with eleven health professionals from the war-torn country about the issues they’ve faced in getting accredited in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Osborne said they’ve talked about the requirements to become credentialed in Canada and this province, including background checks, required training, and language proficiency.
He says government is putting in supports to break down the language barrier.
He says the accreditation process is at arm’s length of government, but the Department of Health is putting navigators in place to help newcomers find their way through the system. He says the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills.
