The NunatuKavut Community Council is calling on DFO to close all rivers in Labrador to salmon angling because of high water temperatures.
DFO has instituted partial closures but the group says it should go a step further and close all rivers to catch-and-release salmon angling until water temperatures return to a safe and sustainable range.
NunatuKavut says total closure would help protect salmon during their sensitive migratory period. It would also confirm Canada’s commitment at the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization to the long-term viability and conservation of the species.
