The Association of Allied Health Professionals has ratified its collective agreement with government.
The AAHP walked away from conciliation with government mid-January. With a strike looming, a tentative deal was reached on February 9.
Union President Gord Piercey says the new four-year deal was ratified with over 88 per cent of their membership voting in favour.
He says the deal sees “significant movement” in wages, and “positive” changes to workload and standards of practice.
AAHP says government has agreed to work with the union to develop a new, permanent health professionals pay grid. A target date for completion of the system has been set for one year from now.
Piercey calls the new agreement a “first step in the right direction for allied health professionals and the stabilization of the health care system.”
He says the changes will not immediately solve all of the issues, but it is a “purposeful first step.”
