The owner of Random Island Ambulance Service is frustrated with the response time from Bell Aliant after phone lines went down in the region yesterday.
Chris Hansford says the trouble began around 3 p.m. Sunday, with service not being restored until Monday afternoon.
Hansford says the outage left many on the island, particularly seniors, without a way to get in touch with them in case of emergency.
He says they contacted the 911 dispatch and gave them their cellphone information so they could still be contacted.
Following a call on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, Hansford says area MHA Lloyd Parrott and the Minister’s office all got involved.
According to Hansford he received little satisfaction from calling Bell Alliant directly.
He says he was given an appointment time on Wednesday for a technician to come look at the issue. Hansford says it wasn’t registering with them that “this could be life and death.”
In a statement to VOCM News, Bell Aliant says that their team worked as quickly as possible to restore services to those on Random Island, and apologize for the delay.
