Newfoundland and Labrador is considering opening up an office in Boston to promote the province in the United states.
The idea came up during an Energy NL event featuring Premier Andrew Furey and federal minister François-Philippe Champagne.
Furey believes it is “abundantly clear” that not everyone understands that the province has jurisdiction over its own natural resources.
He says the office would be used to grow markets for various industries such as the fishery, hydroelectricity, hydrogen, and mining. He says it is important to have a presence, and they are “critically looking at Boston as a potential.”
Furey says a final analysis of a potential office is being done, and a decision will be made shortly.
Champagne says he would support such a move, noting that he has seen the benefits of it with other provinces.
He says people across the world aren’t waking up in the morning thinking about Newfoundland and Labrador, which is why it is important to have a presence in markets like the united states and Germany.
