The Chief Medical Officer of Health is offering some suggestions for safe viewing of the solar eclipse next week.
The path of totality will cross Newfoundland from Bonavista, through Terra Nova National Park, and the Codroy Valley.
A partial eclipse will be visible in many parts of the southern portion of the island.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald is echoing the advisories issued by many groups, health professionals and organizations ahead of the event. That includes not looking at the eclipse with the naked eye, and viewing the eclipse wearing ISO (12312-2) standard glasses to prevent permanent eye damage and sight loss.
If you’re unable to get approved eclipse glasses, you can still watch the phenomenon with an eclipse projector or online.
Instructions on how to make your own eclipse projector can be found online.
