CUPE is preparing for an election call and it wants to make sure that government’s privatization plans are front and centre in people’s minds.
CUPE is hosting its 50th annual convention at the Delta in St. John’s and yesterday it unveiled a trailer it’s taking on the road to spread the word on concerns they have about privatization creep.
The trailer will be taken across the province this summer to spread the message that P3s don’t work.
CUPE NL President Sherry Hillier cites example after example of the direction government is heading in as reason for concern.
She says the reliance on agency nurses is having an impact on their members who are LPN and are working side-by-side with nurses getting much higher pay. Her members in Corner Brook will soon be moving into a P3 hospital, “and now they’re talking highways. P3s do not work,” says Hillier.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn and federal NDP President Mary Shortall will address the convention this morning.
