The cruise ship season in St. John’s is in full swing with more vessels scheduled this year than last.
About 900 passengers dropped into the metro region on Sunday but the visits ramp up in July and August.
Councillor Jill Bruce, who’s the city’s lead on tourism, says 40 visits are expected—an increase of seven over last year—but the number of passengers will double to 54,000.
Bruce says some of our film productions such as Hudson and Rex and Republic of Doyle, are popular in other parts of the world and people become familiar with our area through those productions.
The next ship arrives May 23 and the season goes right in to October, notes Bruce.
