A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with with the attempted armed robbery of a cab driver in Corner Brook on the weekend.
RCMP received a complaint last Saturday afternoon that a cab driver had been held up in the area of Halfway Point.
Two men, who flagged the cabbie down for a ride, got in the back seat of the cab and once the vehicle started moving, one of the men reached around from the back seat, assaulted the driver and demanded money.
The driver was able to call for help on his radio and the two men got out and fled on foot.
The suspect, identified as Kirby Spence, was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop. Spence was previously wanted by Clarenville RCMP on charges of uttering threats.
He’s now facing additional charges of assault and robbery. The second suspect has been identified and further charges are expected as the investigation continues.
