The Newfoundland Rogues are in must-win territory tonight at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s.
The Rogues are down 2-0 in their best-of-five, first-round series with the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans, and would be eliminated from the playoffs with a loss.
Coach Jerry Williams, who will miss tonight’s game due to a family emergency, is pleading for some extra hometown support to spur on the players.
He says the team is in a familiar position, which should help them, noting they’re used to having their backs against the wall yet coming out on top, as demonstrated in their push to make the playoffs.
Williams says the team must get back to what they do best: scoring.
“Those two problems that we had in the last two games, we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket for some reason,” he said. “We’re the number one scoring team in the league and we just couldn’t score.
“So we just have to focus more and make sure our layups are falling, our free-throws are falling, and I think we’ll be fine.”
Tipoff for tonight’s game is 7 p.m.
