A new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Nova Scotia is shedding a light on the people and industries that are making less than $20 an hour.
The report is called Atlantic Canadians need a raise: One-third of workers earn less than $20 an hour.
Christine Saulnier, director of the centre and co-author of the report, says over 80 per cent of people earning less than that amount are not students and are over the age of 20.
She explains 76 per cent of those are working in permanent jobs, and 67 per cent have full time jobs.
In this province, the industries that are most affected are accommodation and food services, and retail trade.
But that’s not all.
She says 46 per cent of forestry and logging employees are also in that categories. Many in the tourism, culture, recreation, waste management, administrative service, health care and education also make less than $20.
